It’s officially road trip season, and according to a recent survey, 80% of Americans are gearing up to hit the open road this summer. But road trip or not, it’s best to stay on top of things when it comes to the safety of your vehicle. In addition to regular maintenance, this also means paying attention to any relevant manufacturer recalls—like the one recently issued for more than half a million Toyota and Lexus vehicles in the United States and Canada. Here’s what to know.
Why is Toyota recalling vehicles?
Toyota is currently recalling approximately 460,000 vehicles in the United States, and 41,000 in Canada because of a software error, the company reports. Specifically, the glitch can prevent the Vehicle Stability Control system (VSC) from automatically turning on if the car is started under certain circumstances.
At this point, the government has not yet released details about the recall.
Which Toyota vehicles are part of the recall?
The following vehicles are part of the current Toyota recall:
- 2021-2022 Toyota Venza

What to do if your Toyota vehicle is part of the recall
According to the company, Toyota and Lexus dealers will update the software of the skid control electronic control unit (ECU) free of charge for owners of the recalled vehicles. It did not, however, provide any additional information, instructions, or timeframe as to how or when these updates will happen.
In the meantime, if you have any additional questions, you can contact customer support for Toyota at 1-800-331-4331 or Lexus at 1-800-255-3987.
